Quote of the Week! : )

"People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges."
                                                                                                 - Joseph F. Newton Men

Some people wonder why they are alone. There are many reasons for this. The reason in this quote is that people build walls and not bridges. Most of you probably already know what this quote means. For those of you who don't, I'm going to give you my explanation to have a better understanding of the quote.

What does it mean to build walls? Ask yourself about what walls are made to do. They are made to keep things out and to protect what is inside the walls. When you are building walls, you are putting up barriers that doesn't allow people to get close to you. You don't let them know what is in your head, what you are thinking, or even feeling. Also, you could even keep yourself from getting too close to people. Basically, you are keeping a distance between you and others. Why do some people do this? To prevent themselves from getting hurt. Now, what would it mean to build bridges? What do bridges do? They allow things to cross over them, so they can get from one side to the next. When someone does this, they are are allowing themselves to get close to someone, and they are allowing someone to get close to them. So, according to the quote, why are people lonely? They are lonely, because they distance themselves from people and don't let them in with their emotions.

Now that I have explained that a little, I have a question for you. Do you know anyone that builds walls and not bridges? Do you yourself do this? I know someone that does it. They are an awesome person, but fights tend to occur often between them and others. The fights sometimes happen because of misunderstandings. This person will not let people in, and he won't tell them his feelings. Sometimes, people have to know your feelings so they can understand your actions and your point of views. Because he holds it in, it causes his girlfriend not to feel close to him. She wants him just to open up to her. So, if you are like this, I have one piece of advice. Just plain out open up. Take a chance and let it out. You can't keep yourself in a shell forever. If you feel you can trust somebody, then let them in. Don't be afraid. If someone screws you over, then that's something you can learn from. You will start figuring out the type of people you can or can't trust. Good luck to you, and I hope this has helped you with a better view.
