Thanksgiving Break

I had a week off from school for Thanksgiving. It was a nice break because it was long. I had a lot of good things to eat. I ate way to much on Thanksgiving Day. My mom was the one that did all the cooking for the family. I had to wake up early to help put the turkey in the oven. It was worth waking up for because the turkey was so good. After we ate I just sat around and talked to my family. It was a good time. After that day was over I got to go hunting. I saw a lot of deer but none that I wanted to shoot because they are to small. I had a blast hunting. I like the way it feels when you know there is a deer coming your way it gets your hart racing. It can just never be a big one that you want to shoot. Well that is a little information about my break and the fun things I did. So what did you do? We may have did some of the same things you never know so let me know.

Crafting Ideas

Are you looking for more crafting ideas? All of the ones below are made from recycled products. Try them and you might like the outcomes! Please, let me know if you make one and post a picture so we all can see what you made. Have fun with it! :] Here's the list:

Soft Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Thanksgiving is a few days away! Make these cookies for your family and you surely will hear everyone say, "yum".

iced pumpkin cookies

Ingredients

(makes approximately 3 dozen cookies)

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 cup canned pumpkin puree

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Icing Ingredients

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

3 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon melted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

dash of cinnamon (if desired)

Directions

Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt, then set aside.

Cream  1/2 cup of butter and white sugar. Add pumpkin, egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla to butter mixture, and beat until creamy.

Mix in the dry ingredients until well blended.

Drop on cookie sheet by tablespoonfuls; flatten slightly.

Bake in preheated oven to 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool on wire rack.

Glaze Directions

Combine confectioners’ sugar (a.k.a. powdered sugar) milk, melted butter and vanilla. You may have to add a bit more milk to achieve the right consistency for drizzling.

I added a dash of cinnamon for just a little hint of that cinnamon flavor.

Drizzle over cookies with fork. You will run out of icing if you cover all your cookies as much as I did. I made a full batch of icing and and I left about 10 without icing at the request of my hubby but had no leftovers.  Mmm…icing.

I got this from HERE.

*Thanksgiving was held twice in 1815.*

The first US Thanksgiving was held between 21 September and 11 November 1621 in Massachusetts by 50 Plymouth Pilgrims and their 90 Wampanoag neighbors. After that, Thanksgiving was held fairly randomly. Thanksgiving days were proclaimed annually by the US Congress from 1777 to 1783 which, except for 1782, were all celebrated in December. George Washington declared Thanksgiving in 1789 and 1795, and John Adams in 1798 and 1799. James Madison declared Thanksgiving twice in 1815. None of these were celebrated in the autumn.

Amazing Cake Pops: Wilton Style

cake pops

Ingredients

cake mix (your choice, pound cake version)

1 pkg instant pudding

4 eggs

1 cup water

1/2 cup oil

Wilton ready-to use icing (your choice of flavor)

Wilton candy melts

Wilton cookie treat sticks

Toppings of your choice such as sprinkles and nuts (if desired)

Directions

For the cake ball recipe, Wilton recommends using the pound cake version for a regular cake mix. Mix together 1 box cake mix, instant pudding, eggs, water and oil. Bake and cool following mix directions.

1 layer of a 8 inch cake or 1/2 of a 9×13 cake or cake scraps. This is approximately 4 cups of crumbled cake. Crumble cake into very small pieces.

Add 1/2 cup of icing.

Mix with hands to moisten and blend them together. It may be a bit messy but produces the best results.

Shape balls and firmly pack them into any shape you desire. Adjust the size to whatever you prefer!

■Small: 1 tablespoon (approximately 1 and 1/4 inch)

■Medium: 2 tablespoons (approximately 1 and 1/2 inch)

■Large: 3 tablespoons (approximately 1 and 3/4 inch)

Place on cookie sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Chill until firm, approximately 2 hours in the refrigerator or if in a time crunch you can put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes.

Dip the end of the cookie stick in melted candy and insert into ball. Chill to set so your cake ball will stay on the stick when you dip the entire ball into candy coating.

Dip chilled pop into melted candy and coat completely.

Tip: If your shape is fragile, swipe the backside with melted candy, chill to set and place on cooling rack. Pour melted candy over the top to coat. Very easy with decorating bag.

Lightly tap sides on melting pop to remove excess.

Tip: If your cake pops start to move on the stick, place remaining non-dipped pops in the fridge for a bit to harden them up again. If you are doing a lot of cake pops, try starting out with only half of them out at a time.

Dip in sprinkles, nuts, mini chocolate chips or toasted coconut (or whatever else you can dream up). Insert into styrofoam piece to keep upright and chill to set.

Tip: If you are only dipping them in melted candy, chill immediately after dipping or you may leave a white shadow on your finished piece. This happens when candy isn’t properly chilled, causing the fat in the candy to rise to the surface. It will create a white film but still tastes the same. You can always cover it up with sprinkles!

The possibilities are endless! You can also use shaped silicone moles or pans to give you more defined shaped treats. Watch for more of those ideas here on Oh My! Sugar High.

I feel like going home and cooking this myself!

Quote of the Week!

This quote means that you need to watch everything that you say and do because that
can make you the person that you are today. Each day you find a new thing
inside of you that is truly amazing. Everybody needs to watch what they say and do because you don't know what the future as for you. Your character really does reflect your destiny. Your actions, habits, and words are all apart of your character. What you chose to do or say can get you in trouble or give you a very nice fortune. Be a role model to people don't say bad words or have bad actions. They world out there needs more people to show others what the difference is between right and wrong.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Song of the Week #7: Back to December

Taylor Swift gave a beautiful performance at the CMA awards this year. "Back to December" is a song on her new album Speak Now. This song was meant to be towards Taylor Launter. They did have a previous relationship, but she broke up with him because she was getting her heart broken in half again. She is saying in this song that she is sorry for what she did and if she could go back and change everything, she would. I found this song very sad, but also nice because she is apologizing for everything she did. I would take her back if I was Taylor Launter. I think that they were the best couple and he was a really nice guy to her, but I understand what she means when she says she is scared. What do think Taylor Launter should say to Taylor Swift about this song? Do you think he should take her back? Comment below and tell me what you think! Thanks. (:
Here is another of Taylor's performance of "Back to December" at the American Music Awards.

Which performance do you like best? Let me know by commenting below! Thanks. (:

Poem of the Week # 9 : When Old Lovers Turn Into Friends

When Old Lovers Turn Into Friends

I fell in love one day
It was a love like no other
I was left with no words to say
I prayed that I wouldn’t smother

Gently, he held my hand
He embraced me like he couldn’t let go
We would walk slowly across the beach’s sand
Everyday our love would grow and grow

separated Pictures, Images and PhotosI thought we were reaching a point of high
But there was a painful shock you couldn’t miss
A brunette with freckles snuck right by
And stole what felt like every kiss

My love was great
But it wasn’t for long
I lost my mate
But will no longer sing a sad song

I guess you could call me naive
I believed forever had no end
Until the day I was deceived
I don’t know how my heart will mend

I’m still left with nothing to say
For a while, I couldn’t even comprehend
Now I’ll wait for the day
When old lovers turn into friends

Rain

Rain is so one of the worst things that I do not like. It's always rains when you have something plan to do outside. I like snow a lot better than rain because you can still do things outside when it is snowing. One thing I do not like about rain is that you can be out side doing something and think that it is not going to rain and it starts poring down rain. Then you get all wet and have to go change your clothes. Some people like rain because of what it does for the earth but if we could get away with out rain I would so like that a lot better. It's just a big pain to try to go out and do something when it is raining. Who wants to go out in the rain and work that's no fun. Tell me what you think about rain and how you like it. We may feel the same way about rain you never know.

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a holiday where you give thanks to everything you have in your life. (: It's one of my favorite holidays because we get to eat a lot and we get off school for more than a week, that's always good. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is truly the most exciting thing I look forward to on Thanksgiving. It always gets me ready for the big day ahead of me and it's a truly amazing event that is held in New York each year. Every thanksgiving is held at my house. My aunt and uncle travel 150 miles to celebrate this holiday with us each year. While the boys are out deer hunting, my mom, sister, and I cook the food. We always watch whatever football game that is on and just have a lot of fun. We have a bunch of food at the table each year like turkey, potatoes, apple pie, vanilla pudding, and corn cake. The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. Black Friday is an all day event starting at 4 am in the morning or early and people go into stores with HUGE deals to get a lot of their Christmas shopping done for their family. I have never gotten to go in the past with my mom, but now that I have a job and can buy presents I get to go this year and I am super excited! The main reason why I love Thanksgiving is because you just get to cherish everything you have in your life. Everyone should be thankful for whatever they have in their life. Nobody should take for granted the people or things that they have in their life. Give thanks this Thanksgiving by saying thank you to your mom when she cooks the food or thank you to your dad when he is putting up the Christmas lights. A thank you can go a long way, it honestly makes someone’s day. So what are you going to give thanks to this Thanksgiving? What do you think about Thanksgiving? What are some of your family’s traditions? I would love to hear them. Thanks. (:

Snow

While some people like other people hate snow. I happen to be one of those guys that like snow sometimes and sometimes not. I like it because I like the way it looks when it is coming down from the sky. I also like it because I can go out side and play in it when we get the days off from school when the roads are really bad. There are some things that I hate about the snow though like it always makes the roads really bad when I have somewhere to go. It would be awesome if snow could just fall without it being so cold. That would be really nice. What are some of your feelings about snow? I would like to hear them. You never know we might have something in common.

Animal of Week #7: Flamingo

You can see flamingos in your local zoo or even in many storybooks. Have you ever wondered why flamingos are pink? Well, a flamingo's pink or reddish feather color comes from its diet, which is high in alpha. Isn't that just strange? I have always wondered that so, I thought I would share that if you were also wondering. Flamingos are very interesting animals they are so talented that they can stand on only one foot. They seem like very gentles animals and which they are to people. There are 5 species of flamingos that occur throughout the world. The greater flamingo is as tall as a grown-up person is. The lesser flamingo is as tall as a first-grader.
The five species are:
- Caribbean Flamingo
- Greater Flamingo
- Chilean Flamingo
- Lesser Flamingo
- Andean Flamingo
- James Flamingo
Where do Flamingos live?
Flamingos live in lagoons, or lakes, where there is lots of mud and water. Flamingos use many of habitats: swamps, tidal flats, and sandy islands. The depth of the water is especially important not only for feeding, but for nesting.
What do they eat?
The typical flamingo diet consists of seeds, blue-green algae, and mollusks they filter out of the water. Using their long legs and partially webbed feet, flamingos will stamp on the muddy bottom of lagoons to mix the food particles with the water. Different species of flamingo have slightly different shaped bills; the different shapes helping it obtain slightly different types of food. Flamingos drink fresh water always.

I think flamingos are very awesome animals and they catch my eye every time I go to the zoo. I hope they never become extinct. That would be very sad if they did. Well what do you think of flamingos? Comment below and tell me! Enjoy (:

The Music Influence On People's Lives

Music is a big part of peoples life. We all listen to it sometime or another. Most people listen to it when they drive or are working. It seems like everywhere you are, there is music playing in the background. People always talk about the newest songs out. I think music makes my day a lot better and makes it go by faster. I think most genres are good because it all has a meaning that means something nice or good. If it didn't mean something or the singer did not want to state a point, then the song just would not be a song. That's what I like about music. It just is nice to have in our lives. Do you think it makes your day go by faster? Do you like to listen to music to it while you do stuff? If you do, what kind of music do you listen to? Let me know your thoughts about music and how it effects your day.

Quote of the Week #7

" If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right. "
- Mary Kay Ash

believe_in_yourself-1
Look at this quote. What do you think this means? I think it means that whatever your mind set is when you are doing something, is how you perform the action. What I mean by this is, if you do something with the mind set that you aren't going to do it right or that you can't, you won't be able to. If you go in thinking and believing that you can and will, then that's exactly what will happen. Always try to stay positive and not negative because your thoughts can really affect you. Be like the train and say, " I think I can. I think I can. " If you do, then you will. Believe in yourself and show it by your thoughts and the words that you say.

Song of the Week #6: Jojo - A little too late

Have you ever had a guy cheat on you? Well then you could relate to this song right here. In this song Jojo is basically saying it's to late to apologize for what you have done. No girl should ever be with a guy that is going to cheat on her. The one thing I really like about this song is that she is saying that you messed up, but I am moving on to something better. (: I know that people make mistakes and they should be forgiven for them, but if you just can't stay loyal with someone then the relationship should not go on any longer. I hope you guys enjoy this song as much as I do. (:

Poem of the Week #8 : Labeled as a Friend

Labeled as a Friend

The waves will never wash away the pain

The sun will never burn out the memories

The tears once shed will leave a stain

We can no longer dance in the rain

The nights you held me close to your heart

I wish that I could just forget

Because Broken Heart Pictures, Images and Photosyou had already aimed your dart

Before we even had a start

Maybe it was just a game to you

It was nothing less than real to me

Now tell me what I’m supposed to do

I don’t know where to turn to.

I have a list of all the things my life has lost

I never thought I’d find your name there too

I never registered the cost

Your heart was never more than a bit of frost

I guess this is our end

We can wait it out

So our hearts can mend

Before you’re labeled as just my friend

Veterans Day Pictures, Images and Photos
Happy Veterans Day! I just want to say thank you to all of the veterans that have fought for the U.S. Today is your day to be recognized! Without the veterans, we wouldn't have a lot of things that we do have today. I think that we should all be grateful for them. Do any of you have veterans in your family? Maybe you know a veteran but they aren't in your family? My dad and my grandpa are veterans. Have you thanked a vet yet?

Did you know?

I didn't know what to post about so I looked up some true facts. I thought this was interesting.

If you want more facts like this, click here!

Drugs

drugs prison stick figureprisonDrugs are the worst thing you can let get into your life, atleast in my opinion. They have bad effects that can harm you and even the people around you. I know some people that have used drugs before and had gotten in trouble for using them. They will mess up your life big time. If you get caught with them, you can go to jail for a long time. Once you are in jail, you won't be able to have any of those drugs. What would you do then? Some people might even have a mental breakdown. They will have to get professional help to kick the addiction. That will be hard for some people to do. In my opinion, it would just be best if everyone stayed away from drugs. People have died from just being around drugs. Anything bad can happen when you get around drugs. People get shot just from going up to the wrong person and asking them if they have any drugs. Also, someone that just had an intake of drugs could drive and run over someone because they don't have complete control of themselves. They don't have complete control of their minds. No one deseves to be killed over something stupid like drugs. Do you know anyone that does drugs? Well, if you do I would yell at them and tell them that something like drugs will kill them. Let me lnow what they have to say. I hope they tell you that they have quit using them or is going to stop using them.

Animal of the Week #6 : Penguins

Do you like penguins? Have you ever seen them? Yes, you can find them in the zoo. I'm talking about in their natural habitat outside of the zoo. Did you know that there are at least 18 different species of penguins? That is intense right?! The pengiun range from the largest living species which is the Emperor Pengin all the way to the smallest penguin species which is the Little Blue Penguin. Penguins can swim over 25 miles per hour because they have such strong legs and arms. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their life on land and half in the oceans. Since penguins live in the water half of the time they can be endangered by oil spills, water pollution, and over harvesting. Penguins will not cross warm ocean water; therefore, they are all found in nature south of the equator. So, they mainly live in the Artic Ocean. The Galapagos penguin lives the farthest north, near the equator in the cold waters around the islands of the same name.
Penguins are very intersting and cute animals, they have the ability to live on both land and water which I think is pretty awesome.
Click here to see where I got my information at! (:
If you have anything intersting you wanna share about penguins don't be afraid to comment and tell us what you think! (: I hope you guys enjoyed this animal of the week.
Is there any blogs I can add to my Google Reader about penguins? There sure is! (:

Quote of the Week #6

Mark TwainEverybody has their dreams and they don't want to be made fun of for that. The real people that love you and want you to succeed will push you to your greatest so you can become someone you have always wanted to be. (: Real friends won't make you feel little and make you feel like you can't do anything. Real friends would compliment you and tell you that you can do anything you put your mind to. Hang around people that will make you feel good about being you. People that want you to change for them because you don't fit in are just wrong, and the truth is they will probably never accept you for who you truly are. So find friends that really love and don't care if you act crazy in public because they would probably join you. I have a few of those friends. (:

Poem of the Week #8: The Strongest Girl I Ever Knew

The Strongest Girl I Ever Knew

She never got to dance,
Or go to her own Prom.
She never got the chance,
To forget where she came from.

She never got to kiss,
A man she idolized.
She never felt love's bliss,
'Cause she was paralyzed.
jasdjka

She never got to talk,
About love with a smile.
She never got to walk,
Down a Church's Aisle.

She never got to say,
Those precious words "I Do".
But she was far and away,
The strongest girl I ever knew.

She couldn't brush her hair,
Or put make up on her face.
She couldn't hold you dear,
Or give you a warm embrace.

She couldn't clasp her hands,
As if in the form of prayer.
She couldn't understand,
Why she was in a wheelchair.

She never showed her fears,
Or let you hear her cries.
She never showed the tears,
That fell down from her eyes.

She never looked for pity,
Or sympathy from you.
That's why she'll always be,
The strongest girl I ever knew.

Poem Source: Ronald Doe: The Strongest Girl I Ever Knew

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift -
She was born on December 13th, 1989. Born and raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, but now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. She was only 16 when she released her first album "Tim McGraw, " in 2006. In 2008 Taylor released her second album "Fearless." She also won 4 Grammys including Album of the Year. On October, 25th her new album "Speak Now" came out and sold 1,047,000 copies within the first week. Taylor has made songs that she feels like connects with her and others. She said in an interview with People magazine "I have never wrote a song that didn't mean something to me." She also wrote on her Official website that "These songs are made up of words I didn't say when the moment was right in front of me. These songs are open letters. Each is written with a specific person in mind, telling them what I meant to tell them in person. To the beautiful boy whose heart I broke in December. To my first love who I never thought would be my first heartbreak. To my band. To a mean man I used to be afraid of. To someone who made my world very dark for a while. To a girl who stole something of mine. To someone I forgive for what he said in front of the whole world."

The Boys -
Taylor has had bad luck with relationships in the past two years. From Joe Jonas onto Taylor Launter then John Mayer. In 2008, Taylor and Joe started a relationship that quickly ended before it even could began. On the Fearless album "Forever & Always" indicated her heartbreak from Joe. The song mainly describes how Joe could tell her that they were going to be together forever and always, but then came along some other girl that took him away (there is a song called "Better then Revenge" on the Speak Now album which really reflects Taylor's feelings on that situation.) Also, there is a song on the album called "Dear John" which reflects on Taylor's relationship with John Mayer. It was a short relationship, but he mainly used her and messed with her feelings. Listen to the song and you will understand.
The Fame-

Taylor has to deal with the fact that she is out in the public eye and yes, she will get criticized for almost every little thing she does. She understands that and mainly ignores the mean people and looks for what she can improve on. Taylor singed Innocent at the VMA's this year to show Kayne that it's okay and she forgives him for humiliating her at 2009 VMA's. Taylor said "'For me, I felt like performing VMAs was the best way to go out there and sing how I was actually feeling, being there really helped put all that behind me.. I've written all the songs on it about things that have happened over the last two years, and a lot has happened over the last two years. It’s been every eventful, a lot of adventures and misadventures." Her motto about dealing with fame is "There’s nothing that hard about it. It's not that tough, I’m not complaining."

Music

I like to listien to music when I am in school because it makes my day go faster. One thing I do not like to do is drive without music because it drives me crazy. I have to have my music up loud when I drive. Don't ask me why. I like pretty much all music besides slow and calm songs. They make me tired or bored. I like songs that have fast beat and that sing fast. I listening to country and a little bit of rap. I have to be in the right mood to listen to rap. Most people like rap but if they really knew what they were saying in the songs, I don't think they would like it very much. Rap songs are just talking about drugs and other things that are not very good for people to be listening to. It will just make them want to do bad things themselves. What kind of music do you listen to? I hope it doesn't have bad stuff in it. : )

Live Life.

I understand that today isn't Poem of the Week, but I just wanted to post this poem because I thought it would be interesting for you guys to read. It doesn't exactly seem like a poem but remember, not all poems rhyme.

Live Life.

Life is crazy,
and totally unpredictable...
It's going to push you over,
kick you while you're down
and hit you when you try to get back up.
Not everything can beat you.
Things are going to change you,
But you get to choose which ones you let change you.
Listen to your heart,
Follow your dreams,
And let no one tell you what you're capable of.
Push the limits,
Bend the rules,
And enjoy every minute of it.
Laugh at everything,
Live for as long as you can.
Love all,
PhotobucketBut trust none.
Believe in yourself,
And never lose faith in others
Settle for nothing but only the best,
And give 110% in everything you do.
Take risks,
Live on the edge,
Yet stay safe,
And cherish every moment of it.
Life is a gift,
Appreciate all the rewards,
And jump on every opportunity.
Not everyone's going to love you
But who needs them anyways.
Challenge everything,
And fight for what you believe.
Back down to nothing,
But give in to the little things in life,
After all, that is what makes you.
Forget the unnecessary,
But remember everything,
Bring it with you everywhere you go.
Learn something new,
And appreciate criticism.
Hate nothing,
But dislike what you want.
Never forget where you came from,
And always remember where you are going.
Live Life to its fullest,
And have a reason for everything,
Even if it's totally insane.
Find Your purpose in life,
and Live it!
