Do you like penguins? Have you ever seen them? Yes, you can find them in the zoo. I'm talking about in their natural habitat outside of the zoo. Did you know that there are at least 18 different species of penguins? That is intense right?! The pengiun range from the largest living species which is the Emperor Pengin all the way to the smallest penguin species which is the Little Blue Penguin. Penguins can swim over 25 miles per hour because they have such strong legs and arms. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their life on land and half in the oceans. Since penguins live in the water half of the time they can be endangered by oil spills, water pollution, and over harvesting. Penguins will not cross warm ocean water; therefore, they are all found in nature south of the equator. So, they mainly live in the Artic Ocean. The Galapagos penguin lives the farthest north, near the equator in the cold waters around the islands of the same name.
Penguins are very intersting and cute animals, they have the ability to live on both land and water which I think is pretty awesome.
Is there any blogs I can add to my Google Reader about penguins? There sure is! (:
